22 October 2019: Hibernating Daubenton’s bat recorded during visual inspections Cruachan Hydro Power Station

The Cruachan Power Station, also known as the Cruachan Dam, was opened by Queen Elizabeth II on 15 October 1965. The pumped-storage hydroelectric power station in Argyll and Bute, provides 440 MW of power and has a capacity of 7.1 GWh. The turbine is located inside Ben Cruachan, and the scheme takes water between Cruachan Reservoir to Loch Awe via a system of underground tunnels.

During visual inspections prior to essential maintenance, SSWC recorded a single Daubenton’s bat and developed a method statement to allow works to go ahead whilst not disturbing the hibernating bat.
