Stuart Spray Wildlife Consultancy can provide protected species surveys in any difficult access situation without the need for prohibitively expensive solutions such as scaffolding.

We specialise in:

  • Climbing trees to monitor birds of prey nests;
  • Climbing trees to inspect potential bats roosts;
  • Using rope access techniques to survey high structures such as bridges, viaducts and buildings for nesting birds;
  • Using rope access techniques to survey high structures such as bridges, viaducts and buildings for bat roosts; and
  • Surveying buildings, trees and other structures for nesting birds and roosting bats from mobile elevated platforms when rope access techniques are not required due to scale or for health and safety reasons.

Stuart Spray Wildlife Consultancy works in parnership with Bell Access and Engineering Ltd  (BAE) on all rope access projects. BAE specialises in geotechnical and rope access solutions throughout the UK. All our rope technicians and licensed ecologists are qualified to Industrial Rope Access Trade Association (IRATA) standards. 

Recent projects have included:

  • Implementing bat mitigation measures at Carrick Viaduct, near Sanquahar, on behalf of Carrilion Plc and Central Environmental Surveys. Rope access techniques were used to access the underside of the viaduct to inspect for the presence of roosting bats with strong light and an endoscope and fitting bat excluders under license form Scottish Government. 
  • Inspecting for the presence of roosting bats and implementing bat mitigation measures at Enterkin Burn Viaduct on behalf of Carrilion Plc and Central Environmental Surveys. Rope access techniques were used to access the underside of the viaduct to inspect for the presence of roosting bats with strong light and endoscope and fitting bat excluders under license form Scottish Government.
  • Implementing mitigation bat mitigation measures at Eartstoun Castle renovation project on behalf of the Vivit Tust. A mobile elevated platform was used to access the fragile roof in order to fit bat exclusion devices under license from Scottish Government.
  • Inspecting Auldgirth Bridge for the presence of roosting bats on behalf of Amey Plc. A mobile elevated platform was used to inspect the underside of the bridge for the presence of roosting bats prior to essential repairs.
  • Inspecting 68 trees for the presence of roosting bats on behalf of Jacobs Engineering in connection with proposals for the second phase of the Newton Farm Housing Development.
